Feng Shui (literally: "wind and water") is teachings, which try
to bring areas in harmony with its environment. Originally it
concerned with the Feng Shui Geomanty.
Traditional interpretation is concerned with the spirit of air
and the water with Feng Shui "bent to make".
The principles of the Feng Shui can apply to the arrangement and use
of furniture, house architecture and landscape design. The spatial
arrangement takes place due to different rules, which are to guarantee
that in these areas it cannot contain bad energies or stop the
the flow of the Qi (comparably with the Indian Prana or
generally the universal life energy). Thus for example
hard edges are avoided, and it is generally paid attention to
symmetrical arrangements. The basic idea behind Feng Shui is: Humans
have influence on his environment, but the environment has also an
influence on humans. After the Feng Shui teachings the most favorable
situation of a house on half height of a mountain/hill, at a south
slope, with outlook on water. Water as jumping wells or
artificial pond plays a large role in the Feng Shui, since water is
understood to be able to cleane negative energy.
Five Elements and Feng Shui
An important role plays the five-element
teachings in the Feng Shui beside the Yin and Yang teachings and the
eight Trigram aligned after the directions also.
Feng Shui is still very strongly believed in modern China, and
practically each larger building project is advised by a Feng Shui
master. For some years the theories of the Feng Shui experience also
increased interest in western architecture and interior decoration.
From the perspective of rational scientific methods, the idea of an
energy flow (Qi) is that the spatial arrangement by furniture or
house architecture to be steered in order to provide good
prosperity, luck, health and creativity, and to ensures avoidance of
unwanted matters, such, as ghosts, hsa (stoppage) or Tsung (crossing)
Feng Shui contains however also comprehensible aspects of the harmony
teachings and behavior biology: Humans like to sit places favoring
their psychological and mental comfort so that
sitting with the back facing the door, sitting in the
restaurants tables at the edge or the corner and humans
feel certain colors, forms or materials as harmonious and pleasant or
as unpleasant.
The traditional Feng Shui -
thousands of years old teachings, which have its roots in Chinese
philosophy. New Feng Shui like Feng Shui is recognized in the
western world not as science and is not classified as
pseudo-science.
In the mainland China, Taiwan and Hong
Kong however are still established new and above ground structures
according to the rules of these thousands of years old teachings.
In tne meantime architect also blend the west architectual principles
with traditional Feng Shui.
