"Li Sao" 離騷

"Li Sao" 離騷
"Li Sao" 離騷 The title of this piece is a very famous poem written by Ch'u Yuan of the third century B.C. He died in 299 B.C. by drowning himself in Milo River on the fifth day of the fifth moon,~when Huai Wang of Kingdom Ch'u, instead of taking his loyal advice, banished him to the south, which caused the downfall of Kingdom Ch'u. There is a dragon boat festival on that day every year to commemorate his death.
In Tso Chuan, there was an episode that Chung I of Ch'u was captured in Kingdom Tsin. He was offered to play the ku-ch'in and was released. Ku-ch'in playing among the literate class of people of Ch'u was not a rare feat. Compositions of sqch qualification could be a- chieved only by some genius of high calibre. It was not without possibility that it was Ch'u Yuan's own work.
